Our design portfolio includes a wide range of projects of all sizes covering the implementation of new schemes as well as the updating and redesign of existing junctions. Working on such a variety of projects, and close liaison with our installation teams, keeps us exposed to the practical issues arising from signal design. This provides an understanding of road user behaviour and preference at traffic signal junctions and crossings in a wide range of circumstances.
Siemens offers a complete assessment and design service from traffic studies right through to implementation. Our dedicated signal design teams use the latest software and recognised methods to enable us to provide bespoke and technically accurate design. Our engineers have experience with all of the requirements for junction design including integration of bus priority, pedestrian and cycle facilities.
Following initial consultation our signal design process includes a site survey where engineers inspect the site, collect traffic parameters, and note possible loop and pole positions with reference to the required visibilities. Using this information, alongside national and local authority guidance, a draft design is produced for discussion with the client. Following comments on the initial layout design the finalised equipment and staging arrangement for a junction design is assessed using standard capacity analysis expertise and controller configuration forms are produced.
A comprehensive design folder containing detailed AutoCAD drawings, equipment schedules, technical scheme proposal, TR2500 specification forms and a multistage risk assessment is provided as part of every scheme design.
Our services can also extend to set up and commissioning of signalled junctions, providing support at factory and site acceptance tests and updating / creating as built drawings.
