Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) is expanding its CCTV traffic monitoring
network across key intersections with the addition of further cameras and an integrated software solution from Siemens. The newly-developed software allows CCTV cameras from different nominated suppliers to be viewed through a single UTMC compliant control environment. Full press release![]()
A busy bus link to Basildon town centre has been equipped with new digital enforcement cameras based on Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)technology from Siemens to help provide a better bus service for people living, working and visiting the area. From July, Siemens’ LaneHawk bus lane enforcement solution will be in operation on the Ghyllgrove bus link and motorists using the bus lane in unauthorised vehicles will receive a penalty charge notice. A new solution for speed enforcement will be trialled on Springdale Road in September for six months. The trial will be conducted by Siemens with the support of Borough of Poole council, Dorset County Council, the Dorset Safety Camera Partnership and Springdale First School. The new SafeZone cameras, which measure the average speed of vehicles travelling between points, have been developed by Siemens and are being installed to test the viability of using this solution to reduce speeds near a school. The data collected by the cameras during this trial will not be used for enforcement purposes and nobody will be prosecuted as a result. Full press release![]()
Major refurbishment of traffic technology across Medway, part of the Thames Gateway area, is underway to significantly reduce energy and communications costs with newly developed products from Siemens. Aimed at reducing carbon emissions and power consumption, the project involves replacing over 600 signal heads with new Siemens retrofit technology at sites in Rainham, Rochester, Gillingham and Chatham. A brand new variable message sign (VMS) family is officially launched this month by Siemens. Fully developed in the UK, the all new Elektra family of VMS offers a highly configurable, adaptable and flexible solution to meet the requirements of variable message signs in a wide variety of different situations. In partnership with SA2000, a joint venture between traffic technology company Siemens and leading consultants Atkins, Essex County Council has recently started the second phase of a retrofit programme to replace traffic signals with newly developed LED technology from Siemens. Aimed at reducing carbon emissions and power consumption, the project involves replacing over 750 signal heads with new LED technology at 47 junctions on a range of major routes across the county including sites in Colchester, Braintree and Chelmsford town centre. Kent County Council (KCC) is upgrading traffic control equipment at a number of sites in Maidstone with the deployment of new outstation transmission units (OTUs) from Siemens. Migration to IP-based communications and the latest UG405 communications protocol will deliver improvements to the existing UrbanTraffic Control (UTC) and is calculated to deliver KCC significant communications cost savings. In addition, using the Kent Public Service Network, the council will trial a system of connections linking a number of public bodies including schools, District and Borough Councils, and local emergency services. The largest of Siemens’ Urban Traffic Control (UTC) systems installed worldwide has recently been upgraded to Siemens PC SCOOT. The UTC upgrade in Chile’s capital city Santiago will further improve the performance of the UTC system and management of the city’s road network.
