As the exciting development of Green Port Hull (GPH) by Siemens and Associated British Ports (ABP) begins in earnest, there are a number of key stages to go through.
In late Spring 2014, detailed planning for Alexandra Dock and the site of the proposed rotor blade manufacturing facility, approximately one mile to the north of village of Paull, will be submitted to Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council respectively.
There will be a new planning application for part of a 3.1 mile (5km) private road suitable for abnormal loads to link the two sites submitted in Summer 2014.
This will be followed by a tendering process for the proposed buildings at both sites, where one or more construction companies to partner the project will be selected. It is anticipated that preferred contractor/s will be appointed later in 2014.
By the early Autumn of 2014 ABP will have appointed their preferred contractor/s for the Alexandra Dock works.
By late Autumn 2014 we expect to see the start of construction, with the works completing at the beginning of 2017. It is anticipated both sites will be fully operational by the middle of 2017.
There will be many project milestones over the next three years and regular updates will be shared here.
A large proportion of Siemens' 13,760 UK employees are engaged in engineering and manufacturing. The new facilities will create many new jobs in the local area with the potential for hundreds more in the supply chain. New jobs will cover all aspects that a modern facility demands, from shop floor, to engineering, to project management.
