During the tour, he visited demonstrations of industrial technologies used in the oil and gas industries, power stations, water treatments works, baggage handling systems and in the food manufacturing and chemicals markets. He also met engineers and project managers working on offshore wind technology.
The PM met employees, signed autographs and was delighted to receive a letter from one employee's young daughter as part of the site tour.
Gordon Brown concluded the visit by praising the work of Siemens in the UK, detailing its 160 year history of innovation. Gordon Brown asserted that Siemens is playing a crucial role in the future of wind power and renewables, and is building a world class reputation in this field thanks to the work undertaken in Manchester. He stated that the Government has recently worked with the company on off-shore wind energy, with the announcement that Siemens will build a wind turbine manufacturing facility in the UK.
