Our investment is the most significant sponsorship to be secured by British rowing from private sector and it helps the Amateur Rowing Association (ARA) identify and develop world-class rowers to give them the best chance of winning medals in future world championships and major events.
We are also working with GB Rowing on innovative ways to assist the team's training and the performance of its men's, women's and adaptive (rowers with a physical or sensory disability) crews.
Adaptive Rowing
The GB Adaptive Rowing Team has been winning gold medals at World Championships since 2004 and rowing was included for the first time at the Paralympic Games in Beijing 2008. Single scullers, Helene Raynsford and Tom Aggar (pictured below), both brought home gold medals for the team, the mixed four won bronze in their category.
World Class Start Programme
Siemens also sponsors GB Rowing’s World Class Start Programme, which identifies new and emerging talent. The scheme measures potential athletes when they are at school or when they are in their first year of University. Potential recruits undergo a range of physiological, strength and other tests and, if suitable, are selected to go further with the scheme.
2008 Olympic bronze medallist Anna Bebington and 2008 Olympic silver medallist Annabel Vernon are both graduates of World Class Start.
High Performanc Programmes in Clubs
The ARA’s High Performance Programmes in Clubs is also supported by Siemens. This scheme recognises and supports clubs which have a track record of coaching rowers to challenge for a place in the GB Rowing National Squads and are committed to the ARA’s World Class Performance Strategy for Rowing.
