Siemens Building Technologies has developed a fire detector which could save hundreds of lives and reduce the £1 billion wasted annually in the UK on unnecessary fire service call-outs. The detector is sufficiently intelligent to differentiate between a real fire and the causes of common false alarms, such as cooking fumes, insects, steam and dust.
Siemens Mobility and Logistics invests more than £1 million each year in R&D aimed at improving road safety and enhancing traffic flows around the UK. Recent projects have allowed the company to successfully launch new pedestrian and intersection controllers and a system which provides dial-up strategic control of traffic in urban areas.
