Passionately believing that science’s role was to enhance quality of life, he had the gift of being able to translate the latest scientific thought and technology into practical ideas from which everyone could benefit.
In 1883, to commemorate his many achievements, London University’s Imperial College established the Sir William Siemens Medal, awarded to the final year’s top electrical engineering student.
Carrying on this tradition, and to encourage the study of science and technology among today’s young people, Siemens awards a Sir William Siemens Medal and a cheque for £300 to the top science and technology students from 18 leading UK universities each year.
By encouraging more students to take an interest in science and technology, we can ensure that more of the world’s leading-edge technology is developed in the UK.
