Several of our businesses also allow their employees to take time off work to help with volunteer projects.
For example, Siemens Energy Services has forged close links with Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, which manage two local nature reserves. As well as financial donations, the business allows employees to take a half-day off work every few months to help with conservation projects at the reserves.
The National Blood Service regularly visits our larger locations, with employees given time off to donate blood during their visits.
Our Employee in the Community Award helps and encourages those who devote much of their free time to helping others. Every month an employee is presented with a cheque from Siemens for £500, made payable to the charity or organisation that he or she supports.
For example:
Val Thompson of Siemens Hearing Instruments is a member of St John Ambulance in Crawley. Her award paid for vital first aid equipment for the branch’s new ambulance.
Paul Foster from Siemens Enterprise Communications used his award to help pay for a table football table at the Emmanuel Church youth club in Northampton, where he is club secretary.
John Riley of Siemens Transportation Systems used his award to help replace tents and gas stoves after vandals wrecked the Scout group headquarters in Solihull where he is a leader.
Craig Sharp of Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery in Lincoln is closely involved with a charity that re-homes retired and unwanted greyhounds. His award bought two purpose-built kennels for the dogs he houses while they wait for permanent homes.
