The Academy was founded by Sir Neville Marriner in 1959 and has maintained a special relationship with Germany since 1967, when the agent Hans Ulrich Schmid brought the Academy to the notice of the concert-going public through its first German tour. The reception was so enthusiastic and the relationship so fruitful that the Academy has returned to Germany every year since, with extensive and frequent tours which are high points in the Academy’s calendar.
“We are extremely grateful to Siemens for this three year sponsorship, particularly in the current economic climate. This will enable the orchestra to further develop its UK and international artistic programme and its much acclaimed community activities. We look forward to developing a close relationship with Siemens and its staff.”
