I am currently the ‘Efficiency and Performance Team Leader’ at Connah’s Quay Power Station in north Wales. Leading a team at the site whose function is all about ‘best practice’ when it comes to the operation and optimisation of plant. As well as managing engineering projects, we also develop real time monitoring applications, provide assistance, guidance and reporting that help to optimise the site’s availability, thermal efficiency and commercial performance.
Since 2006 the site has embarked upon a getting better programme known as ‘d4e – drive for excellence’. During this time we have successfully managed a number of engineering projects and operational initiatives with the specific aim of significantly improving the efficiency of the site. This has not only helped us to become more competitive in an ever increasingly competitive market, but has also meant saving hundreds of thousands of tonnes of CO2 emissions against our generation.
My time at Connah’s Quay stretches back over 13 years. Prior to my current role I was the site performance and condition monitoring engineer and I have also held a number of roles within the operations and engineering teams.
Prior to my time at Connah’s Quay I worked in the chemical industry for 8 years, predominantly as a control and instrumentation engineer for Flexsys.
