Howard Porter

Dr Howard Porter is the Chief Executive Officer of BEAMA, the UK body for the electrical sector, and the Managing Director of ESMIG the European Smart metering Industry Group, an organisation with a membership of the world’s leading smart metering companies.  He has a long experience of the demand side of energy markets, working with the UK Government, and increasing in Europe, to develop and grow markets to roll out energy efficiency goods and services. In recent years he has led the development of a number of new industry initiatives primarily the BEAMA Climate Change white paper, and a BEAMA wide political initiative with the UK Government.   In recent years he has led the development of a number of new industry initiatives including the development of research projects on renewables, the expansion of BEAMA activities to cover lower carbon heating solutions and the framework for the roll out of smart metering.   Dr Porter has a degree in Environmental science, a DPhil in low energy dwellings, speaks fluent German, is married and living in Watford.
