Franz-Josef Herchenbach is based in Fuerth, Germany at the Siemens Airport Centre (SAC) and is the director for portfolio and innovations for all SAC related topics. At the SAC you’ll find an airport without airplanes – but with the world’s most innovative technologies. This 8,500 square-metre innovation centre presents the entire infrastructure of an airport in highly compact form to visitors from around the world.
Franz-Josef was born in Germany and started his career with Siemens in 1984 in Erlangen as a service engineer for controls and automations technology. He worked in major logistic projects for automotive, parcel handling and warehouse logistics around the globe. In 2005 he joined the Siemens airport community.
His first task was to work on the global Siemens market airport study for the newly founded SAC. The second major strategic project was the ‘Future of Airports 2030’ study. Currently he is heading the Siemens ‘Green and Efficient Airports’ strategy and is overseeing further follow up activities from Future of Airports study in the fields of security and process improvements.
