Originally from Barrow-in-Furness in the Lake District, Barry started his career as an apprentice with Vickers Shipbuilding working on nuclear submarines and later studied at Salford University where he obtained a First in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Barry first joined Siemens AG, based in Erlangen, Germany, in February 1987 on a two-year management training course before moving to the UK and joining Siemens plc in 1990. After spending eight years with the Automation and Drives division in Congleton, Cheshire, he moved to the automotive business. A four-year secondment to Regensburg, Germany, helped him gain an excellent insight into this industry and he was appointed Managing Director, Siemens VDO, in 2004 at which time he moved back to the UK.
Following the divestment of Siemens VDO, in 2008 Barry was appointed Managing Director of Electrium (one of the UK’s leading electrical groups which was acquired by Siemens in 2006), based in Cannock, Staffordshire. Since that date Barry has continued to expand his responsibilities and was appointed Managing Director for the I BT (Industry sector, Building Technologies) group in the UK with overall responsibility for the company’s Low Voltage (including Electrium), Control Products & Systems, Security Solutions and Fire Safety businesses on 1 March 2010.
Married with two children, Barry enjoys swimming and cardio training as well as his unique style of skiing.
