The CBM system can be applied for AIS and GIS substations. The system is modular and designed to facilitate all measurements associated with the operation of one bay of switchgear. In order to simplify the signal cabling, the monitoring equipment can be located in the Local Control Cubicle (LCC) which provides close proximity to the transducers and other signal sources. This also allows for a very simple communications connection to transmit all of the bay data along a single fibre cable. For GIS application a separate Node Unit Cubicle, adjacent to te LCC, can be provded if space is a premium in the LCC or for retrofit applications for example.
A range of transducers and transducer types are used to provide the signal input to the specially designed signal conditioning modules:
The signal conditioning modules provide the data input to the data acquisition system. Also these modules provide a bay alarm in the event of set performance limits being exceeded. The system provides a comprehensive data set for CB performance monitoring which means periodic outages for circuit breaker timing tests etc. are now unncessary.
The Node Units are conected via fibre optic communications cable to a central CBM control cubicle where an HMI is available to provide access to the data and where alarm data is automatically generated. Multiple Notde Units can be connected to the central CBM Conrol Cubicle to provide adequate coverage for every size of AIS or GIS substation.
