UTMC Common Database (Comet)
Siemens' UTMC compliant Comet common database system provides a foundation for traffic control centre operations. By collecting and processing data from across the road network and associated sources, the Comet system can provide road network intelligence which can be used to derive strategies for managing traffic and informing road network users both before and during their journeys. When integrated with powerful adaptive control from SCOOT it can be used to trigger localized or area wide strategies to manage congestion and, where practicable, balance load between routes and links.
The Consultancy Services team from Siemens Mobility can optimise the Comet system and associated ITS infrastructure to provide a coherent, comprehensive and reliable view of conditions on the road network at any time. This view of the road network can be used with active ITS infrastructure components to determine strategic responses which manage conditions on the ground and inform road users both before and during their journey. These strategies can be used to mitigate or control the impact of planned events such as major cultural, sporting events or maintenance activities and unplanned events such as traffic incidents.
Siemens can assist with determining data validation criteria through consideration of data quality, completeness, temporal pertinence and reliability. Thresholds can be specified for validated data which can then be used to trigger automatic or manual responses to incidents. Alternative sources of information can be identified and assessed to determine confidence levels for particular types of data input and where necessary corroborating sources can be identified to allow verification of data prior to strategy deployment.
